My "general expertise" is to FORM VISIONS TOGETHER WITH MY CLIENTS and to follow the mission from the very beginning to Realisations.
My specific expertise is the Method of SELF-FORMATION in the Form-finding Process see Publications.
The cloud for fresh snow is the world´s first outdoor research lab for low energy snow production. The construction is based on the hybrid configuration of bent wood and minimal surface membranes in the form of a spherical tetrahedron. The temporary lab was used in the winter 2014/15. It is a milestone for the start-up company www.neuschnee.co.at
The first concepts were done by Walter Klasz and Michael Bacher (CEO of Neuschnee) in a design session in St. Sigmund in February 2014. In this time Walter was asked to be an extern teacher at the University of Innsbruck. So Walter brought the project to the unit koge, where also Switbert Greiner was invited to teach Structural Design. The scientific supervision was done by Günther Filz as a temporary head of the unit koge. Finally following five students have been involved: Harald Dengg, Tobias Hauer, Peter Kammerlander, Felix Müller, Katharina Weber. The construction drawings were done in the design studio of Walter Klasz supported by Tobias Hauer. Special thanks to Peter Huter (CEO of www.huter.soehne.at) and to Sebastian Koch (CEO of www.kochmembranen.de)

The Air-Base is a multifunctional platform, which can be easily installed in any inclined topography. It was built as the realized diploma of Walter Klasz presented during an open-air festival with Glen Hansard in the Viennese royal garden. Later it was installed in the St. Stephen´s Cathedral and for several parties in the landscape. It was also used as a floating bar during the wedding of Walter and Elisabeth in Tirol.
The company Klepper asked the designer Walter Klasz for a new multifunctional product, which can be transportet in two back bags. The name backyak (Idea of Carla Baumann) consists of back and kayak merging into one word. The concept is to use the back bag itself as part of the kayak in that way, that the sleeping-bag, food and cooker find place, too. The German slogan for the launch of the prototype 01 was "Zwei Rucksäcke voller Abenteuer". For Walter Klasz the work was finished with the prototype. Due to the company, contemporary some optimizations in the mass-production line are in ongoing progress.

Since Christian Grote is the new director of the tourismcollege in Innsbruck, all main spaces have been changed in form and appearance. As they also teach bar-keepers and front-office managers, the new concept focuses on this areas. As there was no public money for the multifunctional wall in the new hall, I have suggested to collaborate with the students of the HTL-Imst in form of a guided competition including realization. The amount of students is increasing every year the students fell well - not only in the bar.

Redesign of 3 offices: Innsbruck, Imst and St. Anton for over 70 employees
date: 2009 -2013
The main philosophy of the worldwide acting company is "Think globally, and act locally". The main task as a designer was to create a link between the international Corporate Identity and the local cultures and buildings. The rectangular office in Innsbruck consists of three storries facing to the Landhausplatz. The railing of the internal stair leads and turns into the reception area. The existing columns are used as part of the integrated furnitures such as the common bar in the center of the office. People and customers feel well and the employees doubled since I am working for Deloitte Tirol.

The new chapel in the wood between Fraxern and Weiler in Vorarlberg is a place for communication and contemplation. The building provides an interior space with a strong relation to nature as well as an unique exterior space to take a rest. The design is the result of an inspiring dialog with the inhabitants of the villages. Finally the mere and other persons of the village fraxern helped to cut the wood and to install the facade.
The public building church and municipal centre Rif in Salzburg is a case study for solar integrated self-sufficient design, where urban issues, space allocation plan and energetically functions have been solved simultaneously. The solar issue was the main relevant boundary condition for the form-finding of the architecture, whereas the appearance of the building does not attract the attention to solar energy but to a useable sculpture.
The design solution provides two clearly separated spaces with outdoor puffer zones. At the same time the building is appreciated as one (not two) relevant public building of the living district. The long-time success of the collaboration of both partners consists in the closeness and clear separation at the same time, which supports spontaneous interactions and evolving relations.
The first contact and the feasibility study was done by myself personally. As the CEO of my company klaszkleeberger, I was responsible for the design supervision. Our team consisted of Georg Kleeberger, Linda Schwab, Jenny Karl and Clemens Gudenus. The complete team can be seen in the publications (below).
The access to the building site was limited. The neighbours shouldn´t be disturbed too much and the client got his fourth child. The precisely drawn BIM (Building Information Model) allowed a very high degree of prefabrication - including the complete fascade.
This project was the result of Paul Woodruffe and Walter Klasz winning the design competition for an architectural acupuncture for Nietzchplatz as part of the Culburb Project funded by the E.U. Culture Fund. In Austria the cultural partner organization was SOHO in Ottakring.

The building is heritage protected, which implicates that the attic is not allowed to be removed. Nevertheless a 300m² office was realized in the existing structure. Only a small area was cut out to add a conference room above with a wonderful view over the city. One elevator was built in the courtyard and the whole facade of the 3 storry building was renovated.

The ritual place combines an urn-cementary with a memorial for unborn children. The paintings for the memorial were done by the artist Jutta Katharina Kiechl. Beeing located at the corner of the huge cementary opposite of the Wiltener Basilika in Innsbruck, the place offers silence and shelter. The concept is based on the quality of the "inbetween" - space.

After having redesigned the entrance- and the administration area in 2003 and 2004, we have developed a 10 years masterplan. Step by step we have realized milestones towards a monastary, which shows respect to its rich history but which also opens new avenues towards a spiritual center for our contemporary society.
